Linda Popovic, Business Manager

Linda Popovic joined the Marquette Symphony Orchestra (MSO) in May 2025. In this role, Linda oversees the orchestra's day-to-day administrative operations, assisting with its financial, communication, and artistic functions.

Linda has called Michigan home since 2000 and has lived in Marquette since 2018. With a background in education, she has worked in both teaching and administrative roles. She holds degrees in Music Education and Music Theory from the University of Arizona, and earned her Ph.D. in Music Theory from Yale University in 1993.

Outside of work, Linda enjoys family time, travel, music, and playing the trumpet. She loves being part of the Marquette community, especially walking by Lake Superior, and is excited to support the MSO in the seasons ahead.

Betsy Grugin, Orchestra Manager

Betsy is responsible for administering the musicians, including guest musicians, and all concert production activities. She has a Bachelor of Music Education from Florida State University and a Master of Music Education from Western Michigan University. Betsy is the middle school band director at Aspen Ridge School in the NICE school district. Originally from Atlanta, Georgia, Betsy plays Lead Tenor Saxophone with the Westerly Winds Big Band and principal alto saxophone with the Marquette City Band.

Linda O’Brien, Accountant

Linda is a professional accountant with over 27 years of bookkeeping and financial management experience. Linda began working as an accounting and financial manager in small and medium-sized business sectors, including engineering services, equipment leasing, and an international manufacturing corporation. She enjoys opportunities to assist non-profit entities in building on her knowledge in the various arts, education, and environmental organizations. She was even a member of the MSO Board of Trustees.

Matt Mitchell, Librarian

Matt provides and organizes all the music needs for the performances. Matt joined the staff in May 2023 to take over librarian duties. He is a multi-instrumentalist born, raised, and educated in Marquette, who performed across the Upper Peninsula on violin, French horn, trumpet, and oboe, in a variety of ensembles, including orchestras, wind symphonies, string quartets, and musical theatre pit orchestras. Aside from performing, Matt freelances as a teacher, conductor, and arranger. Matt also repairs woodwind instruments at Jim’s Music and Teaching Center.
